Lazio linked with Pierre move

(GSM) - Serie A giants Lazio are interested in signing Palmeiras' highly-rated midfielder Pierre, according to the player's agent.

The Rome-based club have had to endure a disappointing first half to the season, which has seen them placed just two points above the relegation zone in Serie A.

And recent speculation has suggested that Lazio have now identified Pierre as one of their primary transfer targets after tracking his progress in recent times.

The 28-year-old is currently playing for Palmeiras in the Brazilian Serie A and is in contention for a place in Brazil's World Cup squad.

His representative Paolo Pucci says Lazio are considering whether to step up their pursuit.

"I can confirm this interest but I can't go into details," he told Radio Rai. "It's not possible to speak about a negotiation, but about contact.

"We must also wait for those Biancocelesti officials that will make decisions on the market.

"Lazio absolutely consider the player to be good. Last season he was named the best midfielder of the Brazilian league."
